Checklist before the quarterly return

IFTA reporting needs a return to your base jurisdiction, total distance, distance by jurisdiction, and fuel volume, even if you did not leave the base jurisdiction. This checklist walks those items. It does not state a fee or a tax rate. Not tax advice.

Credentials

What is required for IFTA reporting? Keep a copy of the IFTA license for each qualified motor vehicle and the two decals for each qualified vehicle. If you need the filing basics, see how to file IFTA.

The quarter's records

Save the quarter's distance and fuel records before you file. Total distance includes all miles or kilometers traveled by every qualified vehicle in the fleet during the reporting period, whether or not a jurisdiction treats those miles as taxable. You can also use the miles and gallons tool to organize the numbers.

Filing

Your return goes to your base jurisdiction. The return and full payment are due on the last day of the month after the reporting period ends, and the base jurisdiction furnishes forms at no charge at least 30 days before that due date. See our quarter dates guide and the quarterly packet for a simple filing checklist.

A quarterly tax return is required even if no operations were conducted or no taxable fuel was used during the period.

Not tax advice. Haulbook is not IFTA, Inc. and not your base jurisdiction. The rate is published quarterly by IFTA and must be checked on the official IFTA site.
